2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid made
its debut in Korea in December last year but it hit the North
American Showrooms in early January at auto show Detroit
2015. This new Hyundai sonata is a redesigned version of its
predecessor but differs in the sense that it has better fuel
economy. It will be debuting as the first sonata Plug-in Hybrid
Electric Vehicle while implies that it will run on electric
power for a maximum of 22 miles and then will need to be
recharged with a Level 2 charger for about two and a half
hours.

The exterior

Just like its predecessor, 2016 Hyundai Sonata
Plug-in Hybrid
has rear styling as well as a unique
front that differentiates it from the conventional gasoline
model. The new unique look includes unique front fenders, rear
and front bumpers which work together to lower the coefficient
of drag to about 0.24. The exterior package also features
hybrid-specific taillights, wheels and headlights. It also has
a charging port on the front fender of the driver.

Furthermore, hybrid badging and chrome side sill moldings also
make a significant contribution to its appearance. Additional
information about its system functions is provided by
distinctive instrument cluster. It has a distinctive charge
indicator on the dashboard which helps monitor the state of
charge from the exterior.

There are 2 main paint options; the Seaport Mist and Graphite
Blue.

The interior

The interior of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in hybrid comes
with a smartphone application know as Blue Ink which harbors an
array of functions such as charge-time scheduling, charge
status and range vitals. Additionally this smartphone app has
the capability to lock, unlock and even start the Sonata
Plug-in hybrid.

The new redesigning creates more cargo space and ensures a
60/40 split-folding backseat. The reduction in the battery
dimensions increases the cargo space by 1.2 cubic feet.

The color ranges include beige and gray for leather and cloth
seating configurations. The leather seats have a Blue Pearl
look which has contrast stitching.

The infotainment system includes standard USB/iPod input jerks
as well as auxiliary input jerks, Bluetooth phone connectivity
which has voice recognition and phonebook transfer, SiriousXM
satellite radio, 8-inch navigation system which features
downloadable apps, infinity premium audio system and HD radio.
Additionally, it has an enhanced display.

The safety features include the following; 7 airbags, vehicle
stability management, traction control, tire pressure
monitoring system, projector and HID headlamps, and rear view
camera. Other safety features include blind spot detection,
lane change assist, Rear Cross-traffic alert and Forward
Collision Warning.

The engine and performance

New Sonata has both electric and gasoline components to its
engine system. Both have been redesigned to enhance better fuel
economy. It features an electric motor, a hybrid battery pack
and 6-speed automatic transmission.

The fuel economy is rated at 39/city (6 l/100 km) 44/highway
(5.3 l /100 km) 42/ average(5.6 l/100 km) mpg on the EPA radar.

The gasoline engine is a 4-cylinder type and has a capacity of
2 liters and discharges 5 HP less than its predecessor.
However, the electric type has a larger battery capacity and an
electric motor that is more powerful. Both have a combined
output of about 202 Hp.

Price and release data

2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid is
made its debut in early January 2015 and was released in end
2015. It attracts federal tax credits mounting to $ 4500 for
every vehicle bought. The price is yet to be announced,
but is assumed to be of 22.000 US Dollars.
