2017 Chevrolet Colorado

Despite the ever-increasing amount of trucks in the US market,
the country cannot just have enough of them.  GM knows
this perfectly well and has a number of trucks in the market
across its brands. The Chevrolet Colorado is one of GM’s
popular models in the market. To make it even better, GM has
revised its V-6 engine to offer more power, better fuel economy
as well as an enhanced towing ability for the 2017 model year.
Other aspects of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado largely remain
unchanged, which is understandable considering the current
design is still fresh on the market having just been introduced
for the 2015 model year. In addition to the revised V-6, the
truck also gets a new 8-speed automatic transmission system.

2017 Chevrolet Colorado Exterior

The Colorado was only upgraded recently for the 2015 model
year. As such the exterior is still fresh and won’t undergo any
significant changes.  Just like the outgoing model, the
new Colorado features the similar grille with aero shutters.
The grille is flanked by LED headlights and LED fog lights. The
model also features an aluminum hood.

On the sides, the truck still features triple sealed doors,
which in addition to improving the truck’s aerodynamics also
makes the cabin much quieter. The sides also feature gripper
tires.

As for the exterior color choices, the truck is available in
Rainforest Green Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, Red Hot,
Brownstone Metallic, Black, Red Hot, Summit White, Red Hot
Metallic and Silver Ice Metallic.

2017 Chevrolet Colorado Interior

The interior styling of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado is largely
unchanged from the outgoing model. The model is offered in 6
trim levels similar to the 2016 model. Base models feature
manual climate control while the Colorado Z71 models feature a
single-zone climate control system. A 6-speaker sound system
and a 4.0-inch color display are offered as standard features.

However, the LT, as well as the Z71 trims, feature the
automaker’s My Link system, which comes with a radio with
8-inch touch-screen color display. It packs 2 USB charging
ports, SiriusXM Satellite Radio as well as OnStar navigation.
All Colorado models also feature   a rear vision
camera and dynamic guidelines that improve its maneuvering. As
for the upholstery, base models feature quality cloth
upholstery while the LT and Z71 trims feature leather
upholstery.

Engine Specs and performance

Except for the V-6 mill that has been revised, the lineup of
the engines remains similar to the outgoing model.  The
base mill is still a 2.5 L, 4-cylinder power-plant that
produces 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. This engine mates to a
6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual
transmission.  Well, for long-distance travelers or those
who haul or tow large loads, the automaker still offers the
Duramax mill. It is a 2.8 L, turbo diesel mill good for 181 hp
and a whopping 369 lb-ft of torque. The mill returns 31 mpg on
the highway when one chooses it in 2WD.

Things get better with the 3.6 L, V-6. The automaker has
upgraded its variable valve timing system for its intake and
exhaust sides. Its direct fuel injection system has also been
upgraded. The engine also features Active Fuel Management,
which is a first for the V-6 mill. This enables the mill to
operate as a V-4 during low-load situations which helps enhance
the truck’s fuel economy. The new upgrades add three horsepower
and 6 lb-ft of torque making the engine now produce 308 hp and
275 lb-ft of torque.

The engine mates to the automaker’s Hydra-Matic 8L45, 8-speed
automatic transmission system that replaces the previous 6L80,
6-speed automatic system. The new system adds two gear
overdrives and it has helped designers to shorten the first
gear, which makes the model faster and more equipped to handle
heavy loads. However, the automaker is yet to release official
details on tow ratings or payload capacity. However, I expect
the truck’s fuel efficiency to improve from the current 18 mpg
in city and 26 mpg on highway drives.

Price and release date

GM is yet to disclose official prices of the Colorado; however,
the automaker has confirmed that the trucks will start arriving
in dealer showrooms during this last quarter of 2016.

As for the price, I don’t expect it to change much from that of
the outgoing models.  As such, expect the base model to
have a starting price of around $21,000 while a fully equipped
model with the Duramax mill, 4WD and long bed to cost as much
as $45,000. We will update you when we get official prices from
the automaker.
